Artist: Mbu Deejay
Style: Deep, Lounge, Soulful, Minimal, Afro–Beat and Electro…
[2003 – Late 2007] – Where did it all start…
My musical journey started while recording and playing around with tracks just after I had been introduced to production software (Ejay, Fruity Loops), and deejaying software (Auto Mix, Virtual DJ & DJ Mix Station). As I mastered the software side of things, I moved on to playing on CDJ’s and turntables, and also started experimenting with other production software packages.
BMD PRODUCTIONS…
After matriculating, I dedicated most of my time towards music production (working on my sound). Once I had found my sound, that’s when I started my own production company, BMD PRODUCTIONS.
[2008 - 2009] – Mbu’s Break into The Industry…
I got my break, in 2008, just after I had met Giggs Superstar (Soul Candi), who had heard some of the tracks that I had worked on, i.e. “Hitnotise” & “Sweet Poison”. Giggs really encouraged me to continue working on my passion, and to keep producing more material. Soon after that, I started hooking up gigs at local venues around Johannesburg i.e. Miami lounge (Sandton), Stones and The Rock (to name a few).
Influences, style & music taste…
I am greatly influenced by the likes of “Rocco (Rodamaal), Manoo, Dennis Ferrer, Stimming, Ralf Gum, Jimpster, Spinner, D.O.N.S, Roland Clark, Nick Holder, Black Coffee, Raw Artistic Soul, Abicah Soul, Quentin Harris, Yass, Karizma, Bodhi Satva, Mark Rombay, David Guetta, Bob Sinclair, Kent (S.A.) John Tejada, Orli & Martie, Christos, Vinny da Vincy, Culoe De Song and by looking at that list of great artists, you can tell that he plays a lot of Deep, Lounge, Soulful, Minimal, Afro–Beat and a bit of Electro…
Mbu’s projects…
I’ve produced underground hits such as “Hitnotise”, “Sweet Poison”, “Awakened Soul”, and have worked on remix projects such as “Karizma – Strictly For The Love Of House”, “Chus – Baila” and I’m currently working on more productions… so watch the space.
What else do you do?
I’m also hosting a house music radio show, called “The Hitnotist Sesstions” on zbcradio.com, here I take all house lovers on a journey into sound, every Sunday & Wednesday night at 9pm [CAT]. I’m also currently working with Crystal Vinyl and their 1st Lady, Philile, and this project will be released on my upcoming EP titled “Sucker 4 Love”. Check out my tracks on Myspace, Reverbnation, 4Shared (for Free Downloads) or drop me a line on Facebook.
