ttablez.com Exclusive Interview

Q1: How do you define your style?? [in less than 5 words]
Justin: Deep, Organic, Soulful, Afro, Global

Q2: What keeps you going in life??
Justin: The combination of music, nature, family & friends. Being able to enjoy those things makes everyday a beautiful experience.

Q3: Who/What inspires you??
Justin: I get inspired by other producers and djs all the time. Some include Joe Claussell, Osunlade, Louie Vega, Jephte Guillaume, Kenny Dope, Antonio Ocasio, and the list goes on. Listening to old recordings gives me inspiration as well. Gotta take it back to the roots!

Q4: What do you hope to achieve through your music??
Justin: I hope to touch and inspire people from around the world. I love to get positive feedback from my music and how it has affected someone’s life or brightened someone’s day.

Q5: Your favorite quote??
Justin: “When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace” – Jimi Hendrix.

Q6: What song do you sing in the shower??
Justin: Haha?Street Player by Chicago!

Q7: Your high light moment??
Justin: This past year has been a high light in itself. I have been in the studio for all of 2009 working on new tracks & future projects. I can say one thing that sticks out is when I did a live performance in Chicago with some of my musicians & with the group MADD SOUL. It was a blend of all styles of house with live musicians performing over the tracks. You can find some videos of the performance on youtube.com.

Q8: The best feeling ever was… [complete the sentence]
Justin: When Joe Claussell played my song “Deeper Than” from start to finish @ Club LOVE in NYC.

Q9: Are there particular places, in the world, that are more receptive than others to what you’re doing??
Justin: I have to give a big shout to South Africa because the love I have been receiving from the house community out there is immense. I also find that countries overseas still have the house spirit alive and well.

Q10: Has your music changed since you’ve started?? If yes, how has it changed?? If no, how do you maintain your style??
Justin: I wouldn’t say my style has changed but rather has evolved with the current house sound. Fine tuning my skills over the years has made me understand the hard work involved with producing music. I maintain my style by keeping the music organic with live instrumentation.

Q11: What’s the next step for you as an artist/dj??
Justin: I’m working on a second full length album right now along with some remix projects. I will have a few  releases on other labels this year and will continue to spread the sound.  In between, I will be hosting some radio shows online & continue to run my record label Cabana Recordings.

Q12: Words of wisdom for aspiring artists or dj’s…
Justin: Never give up on your goals. Set Them, Achieve Them, & Set Some More?

“A great summer record if ever we heard one. Nice, classy feel good track. Beautiful piano work and drums. I recommend checking the original but the Abicah soul remix hits it. This Chicago duet take the original and play it up with a heavier drum kick and bassline, they also add a little more drum work and it gives it a more latin flavor. Excellent, worth the listen, the production reminds one of Grant Nelson and his negrocan productions crossed with a little Louie Vega tip.”
